Synopsis:
With her husband away at war, Dorothy has spent World War Two raising her three children in the Australian countryside. As the war drags on, Dorothy and Italian prisoner of war, Alfredo, who assists her in her duties have developed an unspoken passion for another that has grown gradually, but has never been acted upon. An affair between two other refugees, an Italian and a German, ignites just as the war is winding down and the normalcy that everyone will soon be ready to return to opposes that of the future of Dorothy and her boarder.
