The Pure Drop was produced with financial assistance from the Australian Film Commission / ABC Broadband Production Initiative and the Telstra Broadband Fund. The Pure Drop has been in conceptual development for the past five years. Full production commenced in March 2004 and the online component of the project went live in early 2007.
Synopsis:
The Pure Drop is an exploration and celebration of World Music. While mass communication and the forces of globalisation seem to want to force feed the world with one homogenous westernised culture, a dedicated community of musicians is pulling in the opposite direction.
Their story is one of contradictions – they are fiercely regional, yet surprisingly cosmopolitan; traditional yet inventive; raw and unrefined, yet often stunningly virtuosic. The Pure Drop brings you compelling performances from all over the global village, and explores the fascinating stories behind the music of multicultural Australia. By combining video documentary techniques with state-of-the-art interactivity, it creates an engaging and informative introduction to the World Music genre.
