A half-hour TV documentary about Sydney band The Cannanes.

Current status:

Filming and rough cut complete. Currently on the backburner until we get more downtime.

Short Poppy Syndrome is a self-funded documentary, being produced in collaboration with Molly Reynolds.

Synopsis:

It’s 1984, Sydney, Australia. Here on the South West side of town live some mostly unemployed youth.

Some of them are about to form a band that will never have a manager, and never sign a record contract. You probably won’t ever hear them on the radio, and they’ll probably never perform at your local pub, or the Entertainment Centre for that matter.

You see, they’re always going to have a hard time getting gigs in their home town.

Yet by the turn of the century, they’ll have released a long list of critically acclaimed albums, toured the world several times over, and built a sizeable international following.

They’ll be the most “indie” band in the history of pop ... and they’ll be called The Cannanes.
